Leading Northeast Florida Healthcare Facility Flagler Hospital Purchases Pharmacy i.v. Automation Technology To Enhance Safety And Efficiency

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., Dec. 7, 2005 – Flagler Hospital, one of the nation’s leading hospitals, located in St. Augustine, Florida, today announced it has chosen to install ForHealth Technologies, Inc.’s IntelliFill i.v. pharmacy robotic technology to automate its pharmacy intravenous drug preparation process.

ForHealth Technologies is a leading provider of automated devices for intravenous drug preparation. The announcement from Flagler Hospital comes during the same week when The Johns Hopkins Hospital of Baltimore, Md., and Ochsner Clinic Foundation of New Orleans, La., also joined a long list of other leading healthcare facilities to sign agreements with ForHealth to install the IntelliFill i.v. device.

“Flagler Hospital has served its community well, with a long and proud history of embracing cutting-edge technology to provide the highest level of patient care,” said Rod Wolford, chairman and CEO of ForHealth Technologies, Inc. “We strive to help our clients enhance the quality of care for their patients, cut costs and improve the efficiency of their staff. We’re excited to be working with Flagler Hospital, and believe this investment will meet all of these goals and will be an important part of Flagler Hospital’s future care process.”

IntelliFill i.v. automates the compounding and labeling of intravenous doses in syringes at speeds that can only be achieved through automated processes. By employing bar code scanning, vision systems and weight confirmation steps, and by providing final products that are identified with bar codes, IntelliFill i.v. reduces medication errors. Furthermore, by providing an ISO Class 4 compounding environment, IntelliFill i.v. assures that the final i.v. product produced is of the highest quality. The system also promotes long-term hospital cost savings by preparing the final intravenous products in a syringe instead of an i.v. bag.

With more than nine million patient-use syringes prepared in U.S. hospitals by its IntelliFill i.v. robots, ForHealth Technologies understands the challenges and rigorous requirements hospitals and health care organizations currently face to improve accuracy, productivity and sterility. ForHealth’s innovations are setting new standards for hospital pharmacies in patient safety, cost efficiency and compliance with new regulations such as U. S. Pharmacopoeia <797>.

A recent national hospital rankings study says the 321-bed acute care not-for-profit Flagler Hospital is the best in the Jacksonville, Fla., area and in the top five percent nationally for overall cardiac care, cardiology, stroke treatment, pulmonary care and gastrointestinal services.
