New Orleans’ Ochsner Clinic Selects ForHealth’s IntelliFill i.v. Pharmacy Automation Technology
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., Dec. 7, 2005 – ForHealth Technologies, a leading provider of automated devices for intravenous drug preparation, today announced the addition of Ochsner Clinic Foundation to its growing roster of leading healthcare facilities that have chosen to install ForHealth’s IntelliFill i.v. pharmacy robotic technology to automate their pharmacy intravenous drug preparation process.
“We’re simply thrilled about our continued success as evidenced by signing this agreement” said Rod Wolford, chairman and CEO of ForHealth Technologies, Inc. “The Ochsner Clinic joins our long list of outstanding healthcare clients that have expressed confidence in our technology and acknowledged our capability to help them raise their level of quality care, safety and efficiency to even greater heights.
IntelliFill i.v. automates the compounding and labeling of intravenous doses in syringes at speeds that can only be achieved through automated processes. By employing bar code scanning, vision systems and weight confirmation steps, and by providing final products that are identified with bar codes, IntelliFill i.v. reduces medication errors. Furthermore, by providing an ISO Class 4 compounding environment, IntelliFill i.v. assures that the final i.v. product produced is of the highest quality. The system also promotes long-term hospital cost savings by preparing the final intravenous products in a syringe instead of an i.v. bag.
With more than nine million patient-use syringes prepared in U.S. hospitals by its IntelliFill i.v. robots, ForHealth Technologies understands the challenges and rigorous requirements hospitals and health care organizations currently face to improve accuracy, productivity and sterility. ForHealth’s innovations are setting new standards for hospital pharmacies in patient safety, cost efficiency and compliance with new regulations such as U. S. Pharmacopoeia <797>.
Ochsner Clinic was one of only three hospitals in the greater New Orleans region to remain open throughout the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina. A 478-bed acute and tertiary facility, Ochsner has a staff of more than 6,000 employees and nearly 600 physicians representing over 70 medical specialties and sub-specialties. Ochsner is also one of the “Big Six” multi-specialty, group practices in the nation, and the largest, not-for-profit, academic, fully integrated healthcare system in the Gulf South.
