Leading South Florida Children’s Hospital Selects ForHealth’s IntelliFill i.v. Pharmacy Automation Technology
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., Feb. 16, 2006 – Seeking to further increase patient safety and improve medication administration and efficiency, Miami Children’s Hospital will install ForHealth Technologies’ IntelliFill i.v. pharmacy robotic technology to automate the hospital’s pharmacy intravenous drug preparation process.
ForHealth Technologies Inc. is a leading provider of automated devices for intravenous drug preparation. Miami Children’s joins a growing list of leading hospitals and healthcare facilities to select the IntelliFill i.v. system.
Founded in 1950, Miami Children's Hospital is the only licensed specialty hospital for children in South Florida. Ranked Miami–Dade County’s “Best Pediatric Hospital” by
South Florida Parenting Magazine, Miami Children's Hospital offers medical care and services for children from birth to age 21. The 268-bed medical facility has expertise in all aspects of pediatric medicine.
"Technology is changing the face of healthcare, especially in the area of patient safety and reduction of medical errors,” said Constance Chan, Pharm.D., director, Pharmacy Services at Miami Children’s Hospital. “Just as bedside bar-code technology at Miami Children's Hospital has enhanced patient safety in our medication administration process, the IntelliFill i.v. system will enhance the pharmacy’s accuracy and sterility in the preparation of intravenous medications. Increases in the efficiency of this process will free pharmacists to devote more time to patient-focused activities."
IntelliFill i.v. automates the compounding and labeling of intravenous doses in syringes at speeds that can only be achieved through automated processes. By employing bar code scanning, vision systems and weight confirmation steps, and by providing final products that are identified with bar codes, IntelliFill i.v. reduces medication errors. Furthermore, by providing an ISO Class 4 compounding environment, IntelliFill i.v. assures that the final i.v. product produced is of the highest quality. The system also promotes long-term hospital cost savings by preparing the final intravenous products in a syringe instead of an i.v. bag.
“We’re excited about the opportunity to work with one of South Florida’s leading children’s hospitals and we’re honored they’ve chosen our company to provide Miami and its surrounding communities with the latest advances in healthcare technology,” said Rod Wolford, chairman and CEO of ForHealth Technologies, Inc. “Miami Children’s investment and commitment to this technology will help the hospital to further increase safety and efficiency and will be an important part of its future care process."
With more than nine million patient-use syringes prepared in U.S. hospitals by its IntelliFill i.v. robots, ForHealth Technologies understands the challenges and rigorous requirements hospitals and healthcare organizations currently face to improve accuracy, productivity and sterility. ForHealth’s innovations are setting new standards for hospital pharmacies in patient safety, cost efficiency and compliance with new regulations such as U. S. Pharmacopoeia <797>.
“Our concern for patient safety and the high-quality care we provide sets Miami Children's Hospital apart," said Robert Nowlan, vice president of Support and Clinical Services. "This innovative device is yet another example of our leadership in the field of pediatrics."
