Oregon Health & Science University Selects ForHealth’s IntelliFill i.v. to Automate Syringe Preparation
Pacific Northwest Institution Cites IntelliFill i.v.’s Proven Track Record as Key to Decision
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., June 26, 2006 – ForHealth Technologies, Inc., makers of IntelliFill i.v.™, high-speed robotics for the preparation of i.v. medications in syringes, announced today that Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), has purchased its pharmacy robotic system to automate its growing syringe preparation workload. OHSU, located in Portland, Ore., opened the Peter O. Kohler Pavilion that houses eight new operating rooms and 86 new hospital beds.
“With the opening of our new facility, our syringe volumes and workloads for our operating rooms and pediatrics have increased dramatically. Due to this expansion, we need an automated i.v. system that will enable us to maintain our high standard of patient safety and increase our capacity without adding staff,” said Gae Ryan, PharmD., director of pharmacy services, OHSU. “With IntelliFill i.v.’s proven track record for safety and process controls, we feel our overriding goal of patient safety and stability is in good hands.”
IntelliFill i.v. automates the compounding and labeling of intravenous medication doses in syringes at speeds often not possible using manual processes. IntelliFill i.v. employs barcode scanning, vision systems, weight confirmation steps and delivers patient-labeled, barcoded syringes prepared in an ISO Class 4 environment. As a result, IntelliFill i.v. diminishes risks of touch contamination during preparation, lowers drug budget costs and reduces the likelihood of medication errors.
“With IntelliFill i.v. we have an automated means of preparing our i.v. medications in an aseptic environment with multiple process controls, enabling greater efficiencies and quality of care in both the pharmacy and at the patient’s bedside,” said Ryan.
“OHSU is one of the many institutions across the country choosing ForHealth Technologies and IntelliFill i.v. to help fulfill their demands for relentless attention to patient safety and financial well-being. Our customers are motivated to deliver the utmost in quality care, while never losing sight of their hospitals’ financial health. IntelliFill i.v. is helping hospitals throughout the country do just that,” said Bob Zarnowski, western vice president of sales, ForHealth Technologies.
